Basis of 14250 Battery

14250 batteries are designed to use in small and compact devices. Even these batteries are also cylindrical, small, and standard to apply smoothly. They consider using electronic meters, medical equipment, dog collars, etc.

The physical dimensions are (D x H) 14.0 x 25 mm same as ½ AA batteries dimensions, where diameter 14.0 mm is near to the AA batteries diameter like 14.5 mm.

But, the chemistry and performance are not the same. Most of the common 14250 batteries have a maximum diameter of 14.5 mm where height can be 25.4 mm or one inch depending on the categories.

14.0x 25.0 mm batteries are also known as

CR14250 and ER14250. They are cylindrical, small, and lithium. So, it is allowed at different levels. Before collecting anyone, you have to check the nominal voltage, chemistry, and capacity of the battery.

Non-Rechargeable 1/2 AA and 14250 Batteries

Non-Rechargeable 1/2 AA and 14250 Batteries contain several chemicals like Lithium-Ion Manganese Dioxide, Lithium Thionyl Chloride, and more. At this point, I focus on the two major types of chemistries of these batteries.

1. Lithium-Ion Manganese Dioxide (LiMnO2)

LiMnO2 non-rechargeable 1/2 AA and 14250 batteries come with some outstanding features and advantages. The most common features are nominal capacity between 900 mAh and 1000 mAh, the nominal voltage of 3.0 volts.

It is also important to observe the device’s cutoff voltage, drain current, and weather to find out the actual performance of the battery. This kind of battery uses manganese dioxide (MnO2). Sometimes LiMnO2 batteries are labeled on the ‘CR’ that means ‘CR 1/2 AA’ and ‘CR14250’.

You can’t avoid Lithium-Ion Manganese Dioxide batterie’s other exceptional offers including extensive operating temperature, long shelf life, and permanent output voltage. So, the operating temperature range is from -20°C to 70°C (-4°F to 158°F). And, shelf life is up to 10 years. They are standard to use as motherboard batteries.

2. Lithium Thionyl Chloride (Li-SOCl2)

Li-SOC12 chemistry batteries are also great for their excess long shelf life, stable output voltage, and wide operating temperature range. The temperature range can be different depending on the models. Some models have a starting temperature of -55°C and a maximum temperature +85°C.

You also find Lithium Thionyl Chloride batteries that feature from -67°F to +185°F temperature operating range. On average, nominal capacity is 1200 mAh and nominal voltage is 3.6 volts so that users can enjoy its higher energy density and higher capacity.

Lithium Thionyl Chloride batteries are also called ‘ER14250 batteries’ or ‘ER 1/2 AA batteries’ but they have the same physical dimensions of 14.0 x 25.0 mm.

Rechargeable 1/2 AA and 14250 Batteries

Rechargeable 1/2 AA and 14250 batteries are designed for lithium-ion chemistry where physical dimensions 14.0 x 25.0 mm are similar. The nominal capacity is dependent on the drain current. Rechargeable 14250 batteries have an average nominal capacity of 280 to 350 mAh.

The average nominal voltage is between 3.2 volts and 3.7 volts although the range can be changed being sure of the exact chemistry. Know that? See the below:

  • INR 14250 batteries are based on Lithium Manganese Nickel (LiNiMnCoO2) chemistry. The average nominal voltage is 3.6 to 3.7 volts.
  • IMR 14250 batteries are based on Lithium Manganese Oxide (LiMn204) chemistry. The average nominal voltage may be from 3.6 to 3.7 volts.
  • INR 14250 batteries are based on Lithium Manganese Nickel (LiNiMnCoO2) chemistry. The average nominal voltage is from 3.6 to 3.7 volts.
  • ICR 14250 batteries are based on Lithium Cobalt Oxide (LiCoO2) chemistry and a nominal voltage between 3.6 volts and 3.7 volts. This chemistry is so popular and usable in most batteries.
  • IFR 14250 batteries come with Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) chemistry with a nominal voltage between 3.2 volts and 3.3 volts.

Other chemistries are also available in the market. If you desire, you can try those.

14250 batteries are more powerful and feature a higher self-discharge rate When you compare with CR 1/2AA or ER14250 batteries. Remember that the 14250 batteries require 500+ times in recharging.

1/2 AA Battery vs 14250 Battery

When you want to compare both popular models of the battery like 1/2 AA and 14250 batteries, you don’t get any specific answer. Because both are relatively similar and have small batteries. Their features and specifications are also the same. Just different labels. Yes, 1/2 AA and 14250 batteries have several chemistries although physical dimensions of the (D x H) 14.0 x 25 mm. Some batteries feature 14.5×25.4 mm so that diameter and height are a little more.

1/2 AA/14250 Battery vs. AA/14500 Battery

1/2 AA/14250 batteries are extremely similar to the single AA/14500 battery although their voltage and size have some differences. See the comparison table to get an overall idea.

Definition 1/2 AA/14250 batteriesAA batteries14500 batteries
Physical Dimensions These batteries have the same nominal size as 14.0 x 25.0 mm.AA batteries feature nominal dimensions of 14.5 × 50.5 mm. 14500 batteries feature nominal dimensions of 14.0 x 53.0 mm.
Nominal Voltage 1/2 AA/14250 batteries allow from 6.0 to 7.2 volts. AA battery features a nominal voltage average of ~1.5 volts. Or, some models feature 1.2 – 1.8 volts. Single 14500 battery features 3.2 – 3.7 volts.

Note: Battery nominal size is not a major problem. But keep in mind that several voltages can destroy your valuable electronic devices.

What is the Difference Between 1/2 AA/14250 Battery and 4SR44/4LR44 Battery?

Two major differences are voltage and dimensions of the 1/2 AA/14250 battery vs.

4LR44/4SR44 battery. The nominal dimensions are perhaps 13 x 25.2 mm and the labels are 4LR44 or 4SR44. Four LR44 batteries come with 6.0 volts nominal voltage. Alternatively, 4SR44 batteries have a nominal voltage of 6.2 volts. The difference is very low between 4LR44 and 4SR44.

So, the dimensions difference between 1/2 AA/14250 battery and 4SR44/4LR44 battery is

14.0 x 25.0 mm vs 13 x 25.2 mm. You can replace 1/2 AA/14250 batteries instead of using single four LR44 or SR44.

Although the difference is not more, the voltage difference can weaken your devices.

What Are the Features and Specifications of D-Cell Batteries Compared to 14250 Batteries?

D-cell battery types and specifications differ from 14250 batteries. D-cell batteries offer higher capacity and longer runtime due to their larger size, making them suitable for high-drain devices like flashlights and portable radios. On the other hand, 14250 batteries are compact and ideal for low-drain applications such as medical devices and remote controls.
